About Professor Cherol B. Katz


List of some CreditsCherol Katz received her Associate of Science Degree in Biology from Cypress College, her Bachelor of Arts Degree in English Literature from U.C.L.A., and her Juris Doctoral Degree from Western State University College of Law.

Prior to practicing law, Ms. Katz worked as a legal secretary/legal intern in both the private and the public sectors, was a radio personality, and a Political Consultant for the various Democratic Candidates in Orange County.

She was admitted to the California State Bar in 1989, and was admitted to practice in the Federal Courts: The U.S. District Court for the Central District of California, and the U.S. Court of Appeals 9th Circuit, in 1990.

Ms. Katz's employment is varied and includes Associate Director for the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) where she worked in all aspects of Civil Rights and Discrimination Law, as well as doing fundraising; served as Deputy City Attorney for the City of Garden Grove, where she prosecuted criminal cases and worked on civil and municipal law matters, as well; worked as an attorney in the litigation department of Mitchell, Silberberg & Knupp; Director of Legal Affairs and Assistant Vice-President of Business & Legal Affairs at Concorde-New Horizon Corporation; and Vice-President of Business & Legal Affairs at Tele-Seminars, an interactive media company. She also maintains a private practice emphasizing entertainment and intellectual property law.

She holds a lifetime California Community College Instructor Credential in Law, a Certificate of Authorization for Service as an instructor in Law for Private Post-Secondary & Vocational Education, as well as a Vocational Education Full-Time Teaching Credential in Legal Office Occupations.

As an instructor, Ms. Katz has been employed as an Adjunct Law Professor at Western State University College of Law, and has also taught at Cerritos College, and Southern California College of Business and Law in their American Bar Association approved Paralegal programs. Ms. Katz was hired as the Instructor at Troy High School in Fullerton, and Cypress High School in Cypress, to create and teach the unique "Careers in Law" course for the North Orange County Regional Occupations Program (ROP).

She was also retained to develop and implement U.C.I.'s Legal Secretary program and taught from 1996-2004 in U.C.I.'s ABA approved Paralegal program, as well as for U.C.I.'s Contract Management Certificate Program. Since 1998, Ms. Katz has been an Adjunct Law Professor in the Paralegal program at South Coast College, as well as a Professor in the Undergraduate and Graduate Schools of Business and Management and the General and Professional Studies School, at the University of Phoenix*.

Since its inception, Ms. Katz was retained to help develop the curriculum, and get accreditation for the Association of Legal Administrators' new Legal Secretary training course. She was also hired by the ALA as an Instructor in the "Areas of the Law" portion of the Legal Secretary training course. Professor Katz has contributed to several scholarly publications—most recently, Tort Law for Legal Assistants, 3rd Edition (by Linda L. Edwards & Stanley Edwards) and Legal Office Procedures, 7th Edition (by Joyce Morton). Professor Katz is listed in Who's Who in America, Who's Who in American Law, Who's Who in International Professionals, and Who's Who 21st Century Chronicle of Human Achievements. She is a frequent lecturer in professional and educational settings, and has been a legal commentator on international television.

Due to her popularity and demand as an instructor in a variety of educational settings, Professor Katz has recently started her own Tutoring business providing private tutoring in a wide array of subject areas, enabling her to utilize her vast expertise and work one on one with law students, paralegal and legal secretary/legal administrative students, court reporting students, high school and junior high school students, as well as elementary school students.

*I have taught and am approved to teach almost 30 courses in the stated undergraduate and graduate programs at University of Phoenix (UOP). I've taught/am approved to teach 30 courses at UOP's Graduate and Undergraduate Schools of Business, as well as UOP's General & Professional Studies College.
